Certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of competency and experience within an area of law, and professionalism and ethics in practice.

Only about 6 percent of eligible Florida Bar members are board certified

Michael L. Addicott is the only Florida attorney who (as of Aug. 30, 2013) currently holds certification as a specialist in all three of the following areas of law:

  • Marital and Family Law (certified since 1993)
  • Civil Trial Law (certified since 1993)
  • Business Litigation (certified since 2000)

Board certified lawyers’ experience and competency have been rigorously evaluated, and they are the only Florida lawyers allowed to refer to themselves as specialists or experts when referring to their legal credentials.

Board certified lawyers have met The Florida Bar’s highest standards for special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in the practice of law.

Board certified lawyers are Evaluated for Professionalism, Tested for Expertise.

Certification is The Florida Bar’s highest level of evaluation of the competency and experience of attorneys in the areas of law approved for certification by the Supreme Court of Florida.

Board certified Florida Bar members are the only Florida attorneys allowed to identify themselves as “Board Certified,” “Specialist,” “Expert” or to use the letters “B.C.S.” for Board Certified Specialist all qualified lawyers are certified, but those who are board certified have taken extra steps to have their competence and experience evaluated.
